Visiting the Winery
Winery Tours. Tours of the winery are both fun and educational. The operating winery was built by J. Richard Nissley to reflect the estate’s 18th c. heritage. It is airy and bright while retaining a rustic character. The stainless steel tanks, filters and bottling line are complemented by a large stone fireplace. For more information, please see the Tours & Tastings page.
Wine Shop. Just off the archway, visitors will find the Wine Shop, with a complete selection of Nissley wines and many wine serving accessories. For the wine shop hours, please see Shops & Hours.
Picnics. Visitors are welcome to bring a carry-in picnic to enjoy with a bottle of chilled Nissley wine on the spacious lawn, the shaded patios or the banks of the winding Conoy creek. If you like tailgating, the shady side of the parking lot, with a scenic view of meadow and hillside, is usually available. We like to recommend Little Italy, a nearby restaurant with a drive thru window, where you can stop on your way here. Their menu and phone number are posted online www.littleitalyinbainbridge.com. Indoor seating for inclement weather is not available at the Winery, but it is available at Little Italy, and they welcome you to bring in Nissley wine. Please keep in mind that our grounds are closed when the Winery is closed (Mon.-Sat. after 5 p.m. and Sun. after 4 p.m.).
Picnic Patios: On days when an event is not taking place here, we have several tables and benches on patios that are available first-come for small groups (one to eight people). However, on event days, the patios, tables and benches will be unavailable, so you may want to bring your own chairs or a blanket for the lawn. Restrictions for Large Groups: The patios, tables and benches are not available for large groups (nine or more people including minors, small children and babies). Such groups will always need to bring their own tables and chairs, and take a place on the lawn.
Pets. Pets are allowed, but they must be controlled. Leashes are required for dogs at all times. You are required to pick up your pet's poop. Pets are not permitted in the buildings and porches or on the patios and lawn located East of the paved parking lot. Pets are totally prohibited from the property during special events.
Bicycling. Cyclists who enjoy bicycling on quiet country roadways can plan a rest stop at the winery en route. Also, we are just a few miles from Bainbridge access to the newly extended Northwest Lancaster County River Trail. Cyclists are welcome to begin and end their ride at the winery, but the grounds are closed after 5:00 pm.
Special Events. These activities are perhaps the most fun of all. Our signature Music in the Vineyards romantic summer evening lawn concerts have been entertaining visitors since 1982. For a quieter experience, come for other events that we host alone or with other wineries on our wine trail throughout the year.
Receptions and Parties. We receive many requests to hold weddings, receptions, reunions, rallies and parties. Unfortunately, due to staffing and production limitations, we do not rent our facilities.
To Reach the Winery. We are located off River Road (Rte. 441) near Bainbridge in Lancaster County, PA. Driving instructions can be found at Driving Here. Also, we are a quick 15-minute drive from the Harrisburg International Airport.
Dining. Although we do not have a restaurant on premise, there are several nearby places that we recommend. Please see Restaurants.
